THREE WORDS OF WISDOM

(Photo: R. Massaro)

Today's Three words are from today's Psalm Response:
THE LORD LOVES

This is one of my favorite psalms, for it possesses many "three words of wisdom" concerning our God. Here is the full passage:

The LORD God keeps faith forever,
secures justice for the oppressed,
gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets captives free.

The LORD gives sight to the blind;
the LORD raises up those who were bowed down.
The LORD loves the just;
the LORD protects strangers.

The fatherless and the widow he sustains,
but the way of the wicked he thwarts.
The LORD shall reign forever;
your God, O Zion, through all generations.
(Psalm 146)

This beautiful psalm sings the praises and virtues and wisdom of our God. The Lord gives... The Lord protects... The Lord raises...

This psalm sings the praises of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, if we look deeply into this passage. Jesus fed the hungry, gave sight to the blind, set free those who were in bondage to sin, proclaimed the kingdom to the poor. Yes, we can go on and on singing the praises of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

As Christians, as Secular Carmelites, we are called to live a life of Beatitude. Jesus proclaimed on the mountain top what should not remain hidden in our hearts and deeds. We are to be people who mirror the attributes of Jesus. We are to be people filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We are to be people whose hearts overflow with mercy and love for those we love and for those whom we do not love as we should.

The Lord indeed loves us. He sent his only Son to protect us, to raise us up, to feed us, to give us sight, to redeem us. During this Advent season let us pray for each other, that we remain faithful to our baptismal calling by being people filled with the Spirit of God's mercy, love and forgiveness.

Peace be with you!
